Grit
“Grit is the result of a hard-fought struggle, a willingness to take risks, a strong sense of determination, working relentlessly toward a goal, taking challenges in stride, and having the passion and perseverance to accomplish difficult things, even if you are wallowing in the most difficult circumstances (Thaler & Koval, 2015, p.13).”
Success isn’t instant or something that you attain by pushing a button. It also doesn’t just fall in your lap. To achieve any high level of performance, you must have a purpose that you are passionate about, the capacity to persevere and tirelessly pursue long term goals, and finally, the initiative to proactively get things done.
Often when we see successful individuals, we see the wins, the records broken, the medals won. We often don’t see the disappointments, failures, setbacks, and hours spent bouncing back and getting back up… NEVER QUITTING. However, there are countless examples of individuals (celebrity, military, sport, business, etc.) who have faced enormous adversities and setbacks yet, overcame them because they had fortified one quality: GRIT. Therefore, it’s essential that we fortify and bolster our grit.
