Supplement Safety
Start with food first to build a solid nutrition foundation before incorporating a supplement. Fun fact, most of the compounds found in supplements can easily be consumed through whole foods.
Make note that supplements are often unnecessary, are not provided in the dosages supported by research for improvement expectations, potentially contaminated, and typically expensive.
* In some instances, supplementation can be beneficial or even necessary. Talk with your provider or dietitian before starting any new supplement(s).*
Before Taking a Supplement, Ask Yourself...
Do I really need it? Am I meeting my nutrition needs with food first?
What do I expect it to do?
Does it actually work?
Is it safe? If on medication, are there any potential reactions?
Are any ingredients on the DoD Prohibited list?
Does it contain a proprietary blend or complex?
Has it been third-party tested?
*Third-party testing ensures that what's on the label is what's in the supplement, and quality of manufacturing.
